I am both a student and peer advisor at the University of Utah’s top-rated Division of Games.

I am also the director of Monkey Barrel Games, a nonprofit game publisher with the goal of empowering young and underrepresented devs by publishing their games.

Our goal is to become a publisher for young developers’ games, giving them a strong resume piece to break further into the industry.

Currently, we have one game published on Steam: Boat Train!

I am one of 3 peer advisors for the 2023-2024 academic year employed by the Division of Games at the University of Utah. I help students forge their way through the program by being present during hours at our building and offering information on courses, paths, instructors, and extracurriculars. I help run Utah Games events smoothly, I help school clubs organize and grow. This creates a sense of community between peers and throughout the whole Division.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, I was the design officer for the Gamecraft club at the university. Gamecraft is the second largest club on campus, and it’s all about making games. I ran events and workshops, both in person and online, pertaining to design. I was available for individual questions and meetings. I helped organize monthly game jams. During the year I was in leadership, we saw a little above triple the engagement from the previous year.

“One thing that I feel is overlooked in the game industry is empathy and human connection. Charlie is rare in that he values interpersonal relationships and strives to make every person on a team feel important, safe, and welcome.”

“During my 23 years on this earth, I have never met a more compassionate, fervorous, heart-on-his-sleeve man than Charlie. In whatever situation you encounter him in, you will always witness Charlie giving a 100% of what he’s currently got within him. Be it Game-Dev, barista, hitman, whatever job he decides to take up, Charlie will bring to the table what everybody always needs more of; passion. It should be considered a distinguished honor and blessing to be considered Charlie’s acquaintance, let alone friend.”

“Charlie is truly an inspiration everywhere he goes. The quality of his work speaks for itself, but what’s less evident is that it is both due to his skills as a game designer, and his skills as a leader. Even when he’s not at the helm of a project, Charlie creates an environment that people want to be a part of, driving them to want to be the best versions of themselves that they can be in all areas of life, not just game design. I feel lucky, honored, and eternally grateful to have Charlie as my mentor and my friend.”
